Privacy Policy
Overview
WatchRadar respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect on watchradar.uk and related WatchRadar hosts operated by us, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Last updated 27 September 2026.
WatchRadar is operated from the United Kingdom and we handle personal data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Accounts
If you create an account, we store the details you provide (such as email, display name, handle, bio, optional profile fields, and password hash) so you can sign in and use queues, lists, ratings, and profiles.
You may upload a profile photo. Uploaded images are stored on our servers so they can be shown on your profile and across the site.
In Settings you can save a country, the streaming services you pay for, and your email preferences. We use these to personalise title pages, filters, alerts, and emails.
Premium and payments
Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe and never reach our servers. We store your Stripe customer and subscription references, your Premium status, and its renewal date so we can switch Premium features on and off.
Stripe processes payment data under its own privacy policy and may use it to prevent fraud.
Newsletter and emails
If you subscribe to the newsletter we store your email address, when you subscribed, and when you confirmed. We only send the newsletter after you confirm by clicking the link in the confirmation email. We keep a record of which issues were sent to you so no one gets the same issue twice.
Every newsletter includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also turn it off in Settings. After you unsubscribe we keep a minimal record so we do not email you again by mistake.
Premium members can turn on availability alerts. To send them we regularly check the titles on your Queue against your chosen services and keep a short snapshot of which services each title was on.
If you turn on push notifications, your browser gives us a device address and encryption keys from its push service (such as Google, Apple, Mozilla, or Microsoft). We store these only to send your alerts, and delete them when you turn notifications off or the device stops accepting them. Notification content is encrypted so the push service cannot read it.
Account emails such as welcome messages, password resets, and alerts are sent through our own mail server.
If you add a postcode or town for cinema showtimes, we store it on your account. To find your town we look the postcode up with postcodes.io (UK) or OpenStreetMap (other countries), and we then ask Assemble for showtimes in that town. In France we instead send API Cinéma a map point rounded to about 1 km to find cinemas nearby. None of these services receive your name, email, or any other account details. You can change or clear it in Settings at any time.
Cookies
We use a session cookie (watchradar_app_sid) so you can stay signed in. It lasts 30 days from your last visit and is removed when you log out.
We set a cookie named wr_region to remember your preferred country for streaming availability.
Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set their own cookies, as described below. Premium members are not shown AdSense ads.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use WatchRadar (for example, which pages are visited and how visitors find the site). Google may process technical data such as IP address, device information, and pages viewed under Google’s policies.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. You can manage ad personalization through Google’s ad settings.
AdSense may collect and process data as described in Google’s advertising and privacy documentation.
Affiliate links
Some links to streaming services and partners, including NordVPN and Amazon, are affiliate links. If you sign up or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The partner may use its own cookies to credit the referral.
When you follow a provider link we record the provider, the title, the time, and your account ID if you are signed in, so we can see which links are used. We do not record your IP address for this.
Security checks
Login, registration, password-reset, and newsletter forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile or similar checks to reduce abuse. Cloudflare may process a limited amount of technical data as part of that check. We also keep short-lived rate-limit records to block repeated attempts.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting environment may record standard request logs (such as IP address, user agent, and requested URL) for security and reliability.
Third-party services
Title metadata and availability come from TMDB. Cinema showtimes come from Assemble and API Cinéma, and ticket links take you to the cinema or its ticketing provider. Provider logos and links take you to third-party streaming services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
We rely on Cloudflare for security and delivery, Stripe for payments, Google for analytics and advertising, and our UK hosting provider for servers and email.
Why we use your data
We process account, Premium, and alert data to provide the service you asked for. We send the newsletter and use advertising cookies based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We keep security logs and click statistics because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe, working site.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account is open. You can delete your account yourself from Settings. When you do, we remove your profile, photo, Queue, lists, ratings, services, alert snapshots, push devices, and newsletter subscription straight away. We may keep payment records that we are legally required to hold for accounting.
If you have an active paid Premium subscription, cancel it first. You can delete your account once the paid period has ended.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and you can object to or restrict how we use it. Premium members can download their Queue, ratings, and lists as a CSV from Settings at any time.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), but please contact us first so we can try to help.
